Muslims Under Police, Intelligence Surveillance

PUNE, 19 August 2006 — Though denied by the Maharashtra government that it has issued any directive to put Muslims under watch, an issue that was even raised in the Lok Sabha (Lower House) of the Indian Parliament two days ago, reliable police sources still claim that the directive exists and that Muslims not only in Bombay but in the entire country are under the scanner of the federal and state intelligence agencies.

A sharp eye is being kept on the Muslim police officers, bureaucrats, politicians, journalists, scientists, and on madarsas, educational institutions, shrines and mosques.

Records of those who had traveled or stayed abroad for more than 10 years are being verified by the Special Branch police as also e-mails, faxes, letters and landline and mobile phones are being intercepted regularly, said police sources.

“May be the country would see no Muslim president after Abdul Kalam, no chief of the army, navy or air force, not even as state police chief. Also Muslims may not find jobs in the defense or police departments in future,” commented a police official.

The police have apprehensions of terrorists striking at important targets with the aide of locals. With the fortnight long important Hindu festival of elephant deity due to begin shortly, police are taking no risks, with security tightened up throughout Maharashtra state.

“Watch chat rooms for terror,” said state Director General of Police Pavender Singh Pasricha.

Addressing a high level meeting of police officials at the police commissioner’s office yesterday, Pasricha asked the top officials to gather intelligence with the help of cyber cafe owners. Terrorists are now chatting over the Internet as that’s difficult to detect compared to mobile phones and e-mails.

“Terrorists have started using chat rooms as that’s safe” Pasricha said and added that the police will now plan action along with cyber café owners, who have been asked to maintain identity proofs of customers like driving license.

Terrorism is not a temporary issue. We need to develop an effective security culture to tackle the problem. So much like ‘environment’, it is the need of the hour to include ‘security’ as a subject in school syllabus, Pasricha said and mentioned that the government is planning to form a special squad of spies to curb the rising terrorist activities in the State.

The cops working in agencies like Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Intelligence Branch are transferred after a certain period. So, to strengthen the system for gathering intelligence about terrorists, about fifty percent of the officials in this special squad would not be transferred. They will be working in this squad from their joining date till retirement, the state police chief said.

That though is a bit extreme. The comment of the policeman, i mean. I am Indian and unlike the US, the Muslims here have been Indian for generations. In the US you have Muslim immigrants (first or second generation). It won't be as easy in India to even conceive such a move of denying them roles in the government. What is true is that their antecedents will be checked very very closely. Heck, the Indian President Mr. Kalam is the father of India's missile program. He epitomizes what we Indians want our Muslims to be like. He plays the tabla, enjoys Indian classical music, knows the Indian Hindu epics better than many Hindus. He is what we call a Muslim who subscribes to Hindutva - The Indian cultural identity. There are many others who are like him in the Muslim community. The point is that the majority of the Muslims in India, like elsewhere look to Mecca as their cultural fountain. The sooner Indian Muslims consider themselves as having originated in India than Saudi Arabia, the better they will integrate with India. This is the fundamental problem with Islam today. Muslims lack patriotism because they dont feel part of any nation other than the Nation of Islam. Muslim nationalism, this zeal to see a Muslim Caliphate, an Islamic world is the cause of all this problem in my opinion. If Muslims look at Palestinians as people from another country, not their own, they will stop feeling "wronged" for what happens somewhere a thousand miles away. These same Muslims don't see that India's alliance with the US and Israel is is IN INDIA's INTERESTS. They are more concerned with the interests of a bunch of dumb idiots who don't know how to live in peace with their neighbours.

We need to re-educate the Muslims in India. To make them India-centred instead of Islam-centred. We aso need to delete parts of the Koran that preaches hatred and violence and ban those parts in India. We should also stop subsidizing their HAj journeys. Given this, they will Indianise faster.

There's also the fact that many (most?) Muslims in India (as well as Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as many other countries) are only Muslim because their forefathers were forcibly converted. If current Muslims knew the real history of how their families became Muslim, this might make a difference in their outlook.

Well, yes and no. The thing is no proud Muslim will accept that his forefathers were 'weak' and submitted to Islam by force. They would all like to believe that their forefathers accepted Islam because it was the 'true' religion, the "right" thing to do. No one would like to think of their forefathers as weak. Especially in the developing world, people are often very proud of their past cultural heritage.

It is necessary to introduce this part of history in a more detailed manner but that will serve to remind Hindus what they are up against. On the other hand, to the Muslims, it will be another thing to gloat over, how "they" cut the head of the infidels. It will hopefully also remind the Muslims that they are and have always been Indian. Whether they converted by force or by choice, their bloodline has been Indian for much longer than it has been Muslim. I personally advocate the banning of the section of the Koran that preaches violence. If the world can ban the "Mein Kampf", they can ban atleast a portion of this violent book. They need to recalibrate the Islamic campus away from Mecca and towards nationalism. Muslims should be taught that the are citizens first and then Muslims. This is what the Hindutva ideology is really all about. Its cultural nationalism. It can be given another name if it offends other religions but the concept will be key to keeping a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country like India together.

I personally think that the Muslim situation (and a couple of others, such as so-called moral relativism and secularism) is FUBAR, and will be the utter ruination of human civilization until they are turned around.

Which I expect will happen, but will probably take some kind of - well, who knows what.

This is actually the beginning of the golden age of the Kali Yuga, so things should be improving, but it's certainly not visible at this point. Kali Yuga has many more years yet to go.
