Why would they want to cheapen Yom Kippur by making it about Mel anyway?

Why should he apologize when the likes of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Hitlery Rodham were/are being touted as Presidential material right after their anti-semitic rants?

I agree with you. Now it's not what he says, it's what he DOESN'T SAY...And how he behaves. Frankly, it's more dangerous for him to drink again and get in a car than say anything. I believe the Jewish Community did what they had to do (and should have done) when this all happened. Everything now is overkill.

Now it seems he has not intention of repeating that public apology on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, as Rabbi David Baron has suggested.
For some people, like dems and libs, you can NEVER apologize enough.

public apology on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonementYom Kipper is for Jews, Mr. Gibson is not Jewish, therefore why would he accept this invitation?

Why should he apologize when the likes of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Hitlery Rodham were/are being touted as Presidential material right after their anti-semitic rants? Precisely! The left is obsessed with insisting that conservatives apologize repeatedly. Mel already made a very heartfelt public apology and no one should ask him to do it again.

I would have turned it down too. It looks like this star-struck rabbi was trying to take advantage if Mel Gibson's situation to get him to come to his synagogue. There are a lot of star-struck people out there, and the name-droppng and attempts to meet them get old to "stars" after a while. Gibson doesn't need to go to a synagogue to apologize.

I didn`t know that...Maybe he thinks it`s too soon? I heard as part of his plea agreement he has to attend AA meeting everyday for 6 months then something like every other day for another 6 months which is hardcore AA involvement, something they should do to Patches and his daddy as well.

Ideally they'll have him apologizing for this for the rest of his life. OTOH, if it was a liberal, no apology would be necessary.

Maybe he wanted to see his name in Variety.

He has already appologized twice. How many times do they expect him to do this? Get Al Sharpton and other anti-jews to appologize, it would be good for their souls, AND Al baby said his rants cold sober.

And those three never apologized, they just deny it as usual. Just curious if Hitlery ever apologized for her Gandhi comment as well.. The "You all know Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St Louis" comment, or did she blame it on someone else as usual?

That's a good point. The idea of this public self deprecation doesn't impress me either. Gibson has said what he did were terribly wrong, inexcusable and he is sorry it every happened. He doesn't have to do so from the pulpit of a synagogue.
I don't think it would be a plus for the congregation or him.

The fact this is still in the news and on FR is beyond ridiculous.

To: BW2221
I agree. I'll also say that Gibson did deserve a little grief over this behavior that night. The over the top firestorm that ensued was ratings related bulls--t.
Others have said much worse while sober. Those who are upset about Gibson should put that in their pipe and smoke it.

"Alan Nierob, Gibson's publicist, told website TMZ.com: 'Mr Gibson hasn't declined any offers, as I haven't even discussed any offers with him. It's way too soon in his recovery, and frankly he is not interested in anything public or a photo opp.' "
Initially it sounded like he had agreed to speak in a synagogue, but the above quote, from Gibson's publicists, sounds like no such offer/agreement was ever made.
