I remember that the Irish of New York City were less than enthusiastic about the War of Northern Aggression, resulting in some "urban renewal" there in 1863.

Mr. Sherman's statue helps remind me that his forces burned our family homestead during his Meridian campaign at about the same time, in a "warm up" for his march through Georgia.

This has gotten off track, but it is interesting. America survived the Civil War and we will survive this...

If you want to see some real racial/ethnic ugliness, google up some of the old Thomas Nast cartoons from that period.
