Schwarzenegger rallies GOP at state convention

As Arnold Schwarzenegger addresses hundreds at the California Republican Party convention in Los Angeles Saturday, Democrats are doing their best to plumb the governor's sometimes uneasy relationship with his own party.

It's a cynical attempt by Democrats to pry a wedge between the governor, his allies and their voters, Republicans assert.

The governor is raising tons of cash for other statewide candidates and up to $25 million for the party, which will pay for joint mailings and phone banks.

California Republican Party chairman Duf Sundheim said Schwarzenegger has been "a tremendous asset" helping the party raise money for its turnout drive.

Attorney General candidate Poochigian, a senator from Fresno, dismissed any talk of a rift between the governor and other candidates. "I recognize that's the spin out there. But I do regard it as just that - spin."

"The best thing Arnold can do for the down-ticket is to win by double-digits," said consultant Karen Hanretty, a former spokeswoman for the California Republican Party. "And the best way for Arnold to win by double-digits is to get as many Democrats and independents to cast ballots for him as possible. And he can't do that by being seen with partisan Republicans."

You mean if he doesn't associate with those awful conservatives, it would helpful to them? Now we're really talking party unity! Hurrah!

Right Schwarzenegger is just another lib in a Republican title. If you sleep with the pigs long enough, you get to smell like one.

Arnold has been raising a lot of money for the other Republican candidates, including McClintock.

I see you are repeating the Dem talking points, trying to divide conservatives.

CA: Republicans find middle ground at party convention

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1686434/posts

Earlier in the week, Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres asserted that Schwarzenegger will have to answer for what he called the right-wing views of the others on the Republican ticket. Torres predicted that Schwarzenegger would not jointly appear with McClintock, Strickland and the others at this weekend's convention.

====

REPUBLICANS, on the other hand look at it this way:

Schwarzenegger's star power and fundraising prowess will help all Republican candidates, Sundheim said, and having true believers on the ticket will help bring conservatives to the polls.

"The people who come out to vote for Arnold, especially the Republicans, are going to vote for the other guys on the ticket," Sundheim predicted. "And the people who vote for Tom and Tony are clearly going to vote for Arnold."

It remains unclear whether that will happen, but Strickland said the important thing is not that Schwarzenegger campaign with him, but only that the governor does well.

The top-of-the-ticket race typically has a significant influence on races for attorney general, secretary of state and the other state constitutional offices.

In 1994, when Republican Gov. Pete Wilson won a landslide re-election, Republicans captured all but two of the other statewide offices. In 1998, when Democrat Gray Davis won in a similar landslide, Democrats won all but two of the other offices.

You are so deep in denial of many blatant facts or in the pocket of the powers that have shanghaied the CA GOP that you are unworthy of any response. Hack!
