FRankly, I like being a "Southren Gennleman," and would have it no other way.

My wives (one ex and one current!) and my lady FRiends seem to prefer my "Southren Gennleman" persona.

So do I, and I try mightily to remain in that place, though, FRom time to time, I am sorely tempted (and have done so, albeit rarely), to briefly junk the concept and tend to business when encountering rude and obnoxious people.

I'm from Alabama, I didn't know there was any other way.....

Me either.

Alternate post: "I'm from Alabama, what's an elevator?"

Hey now. Keep that self deprecation to yourself.

And another thing.....heh heh Why do these women just ASSUME that the reason they are being offered a seat is because they are a woman. Perhaps a man is offering them a seat just to be nice to another human being, period. We'll have to think of the perfect "comeback" for men to use against the feminazis when these situations occur. Like, "I'm sorry, I didn't notice you were a female."

A woman recoiled at a post office, "What? I don't look strong enough to open a door for myself?"

I guess I have to believe you, but I live in a pretty progressive-woman area, and I've never seen this even out of fairly butch women, nor have a seen men all that suprised when I get there first and hold the door for them.

Only in the increasingly barbaric urban areas would this common courtesy be considered "creepy".

Amen.

Just an excuse for metrosexual's not to be men.

Well, maybe some are creeps, but likely more are decent guys who have been mistreated by feminists and so have come to regard all American women as in or out of the closet feminists.

While in the dating circuit, prior to marriage, I had enough experience with "equal rights" women that my response with to treat women as they seem to demand.

As equals.

Thus no offering my seat on the bus to a women (unless pregnant or with small kid(s) or elderly).

Healthy American women can well stand up if no seats, open their own doors, etc.

American men treatment of American women, reflect how American women treat American men.

Also, I lost respect for American women in that too many of them go for the flashy guys like moths to a flame. Lightweight selection standards in men.

Also, too many of them put their personal careers ahead of family.

Of course, I live in Calif.

I'll never forget the daggers that came out of her eyes

That was her problem, not yours.

Manners are based on who the giver is, not the receiver.

A gentleman does it because it is the correct thing to do regardless. The woman is free to show her lack of etiquette by refusing. The gentleman is respecting himself as well as the women in question.

It makes you wonder what kind of recreational drugs are being used at that "magazine's" headquarters.

Perhaps. LOL Maybe the best comeback to an insulted feminist when offered a simple act of courtesy would be to say, "I believe men and women are all equal, and as an equal human being, may I offer you my seat?"

This may be a generational thing rooted in boys being raised by single moms, with dads relegated to the outskirts.

Guys, you're both wrong! "Does this T-shirt make me look fat?" Correct Answer is, "No. Your fat ass makes you look fat."

"We Southern Gentlemen are hard wired to be that way, I reckon."

Not to say there are no gentlemen in the rest of the country, but you are right! Southern men by and large are much more gentlemanly. People in the south are much less up tight, much friendlier, not just men.

No it isn't creepy. What is creepy are the metro-homos afraid of being polite and appropriate. At least they don't breed and that particular gene of self-narcissitic-importance will be removed from humanity.

I completely agree with you. Also, I think the women at that magazine ought to lay off the ego pills.
