"Snakes on a Plane" looks like a parody of a real scary movie. Unfortunately it is not meant to be funny, it is meant to be scary. In the end it will just be a bad movie, but it does have the making of being a cult classic.

Unfortunately it is not meant to be funny, it is meant to be scary. In the end it will just be a bad movie, but it does have the making of being a cult classic. Well Samuel Jackson is most famous for his two staring roles in Quentin Tarentino movies (Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction). Tarentino's movies are all homage to entire genres of "B" movies, done with real artistry, his hip sensibility and a true love for movie history. It was really clear that Jackson "got it" in those movies and was part of the insider joke/appreciation that made them work.
So my thinking has been he set out to make an instant cult classic "B" movie in a self-aware sort of way. That's why it's not an intentional comedy.

This movie's concept irritates me because presumably it is an attempt to exploit our fear of terrorists on airplanes--snakes traditionally are symbolic of evil and scary stuff.
