One other log to throw on the fire - Syria moving the mines lining the border with the Golan Heights.
I'd class that as "moving ahead regardless," as I strongly suspect that the Syrians' initial plans were predicated on being able to follow in the wake of a large distraction in the form of a massive barrage of Hezbollah rockets.
The IDF's strong response to Hezbollah was strongly out of character for the type of provocation cited. I suspect they had reasons (such as the above) for entering Lebanon in force.
Truth
Why on earth would they remove the mines. All they are doing is clearing the path for Israeli Tanks and Armor to head hogwild into Syria.
It's not like they could actually take on Israel.
Well at least that is the conventional wisdom which wisdom is predicated upon a war with conventional weapons.
Alas, no idiot would open their door to a ferocious military machine like Israel.
Alas, Syrians are not idiots.
Alas, either the door is booby trapped with non conventional weapons, or, more likely yet, they don't expect to find an Israel Military on the otherside but rather the radioactive remnants of a once proud people and civilization.
It is sad that Israel should be the sacrifice in the way that many see Jesus. Israel will be obliterated and its people consumed in hellfire so that the world can awake to this horrible threat to life - to wit, the ideology of death.
