I agree....sometimes the siver-spooned extremely wealthy are at a lost to keep themselves occupied other than spending money. So, they need an outlet for some area of so called 'expertise'. But being rich, patience isn't their long suite.
John should have had a minimum 200+ solo hrs in a high wing aircraft like a Cessna, Piper, whatever before tryin on an expiremental coupled with at least a couple semesters with some materials and ME courses before assuming 'it's just like working on a lawmower'.

It ran in the family, Sam was never licensed either but flew too. He landed in fields so he wouldn't get caught. They just went with the "brown-bad, blue-good" theory of flight. These people that sell the kit planes should refuse to sell them to the people whose first question is "you don't have to have a pilot's license to fly these things if you put it together yourself,right?".
