"The best thing the Brits could do is switch over to a system where magistrates (judges) are ELECTED. At least they can have a say in who is going to keep their society safe."

Lol, just looking at some of the characters that the British electorate sends to Westminster should surely persuade you of why this isn't a good idea!

In any case, it's not particularly relevant to this case here. The guy in the story was last before a judge in 1996, when he was given 10 life sentances by a judge who recommended him not to even be considered for parole for 12 years and commented "There can be no doubt that you are an extremely dangerous man. It is certain you must be detained until you cease to represent a risk to public safety - if that time never comes, so be it". Hard to see what else the judge could do!

Point taken, and you are right. Well, back to the public hangings, I suppose?

Care in the Community its called. Government budget cuts to get mental patients out of hospitals and prisons. Started under Margaret Thatcher government in the 1980s.

Curiously I was in Birmingham city centre on the day he carried out his attack in Rackhams and I was asked to give blood. The first time I ever did.

Unfortunately, it seems that Mrs. Thatcher made a mistake or two, despite her exemplary and legendary overall record.  Ronald Reagan also made a mistake or two, among them the Brady Bill.  He later was quoted as saying that he had made a mistake in supporting it, but the damage has been done in that case as is also with the Care in the Community program.

Curiously I was in Birmingham city centre on the day he carried out his attack in Rackhams and I was asked to give blood. The first time I ever did.

Thank you very much for being in the right place at the right time, but most importantly for doing the right thing for others in a moment of need.  I'm sure that you eased the suffering for one or more of the victims.

It certainly is a shame that the Government is paying such poor regard to your efforts and sacrifice, as well as the suffering and pain of the victims as a result of this policy.

I believe that these insults to the victims as well as to yourself along with numerous other insults will not be tolerated by the British public much longer.  Soon many will be asking important questions such as "Our Government has disarmed us yet they do not protect us.  They take our tax money yet return violent psychopaths to our midst.  What are we to do?"

With the Government pushing so hard on the public in so many ways, eventually something has got to give...and given the British public's legendary fortitude and tenacity, I'm guessing that the Government may be on the receiving end of something very unpleasant.  Decent people can only put up with so much abuse.

I'll bet he especially enjoys shopping at the cutlery stores.

I understand that there is a move afoot in Great Britain to severely limit the sale of knives, particularly anything with a pointy end.  He had better stock up while he can.
