WASHINGTON
A government watchdog group asked federal regulators Thursday to determine if Rep. Gary Miller failed to pay taxes on several real estate transactions.
A spokesman for Miller, R-Diamond Bar, did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
The Los Angeles Times reported this month that Miller avoided paying millions of dollars in taxes on real estate deals under a tax break that protects people forced to sell their property. But local officials said they never made him sell his land, the newspaper said.
In a complaint, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington asked the Internal Revenue Service to determine if Miller evaded taxes.
Miller, a millionaire land developer, represents the 42nd District, which includes parts of Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.
Read somewhere on here, you can't just "claim" the break. Must have it documented by local gov't. So, someone at city hall lying or extremely stupid. Either is possibile.
Miller probably needs to pay some more taxes plus penalties. But this is too complex an issue, and too GOP a district, and too late, for this seat to really be in play, even in this toxic anti-GOP year.
Ping. Miller needs to get liquid. He is going to lose this one, from what I have read. He needs to be able to write a check, and help reduce the deficit, both federal and state.
If I'm not mistaken, Miller has no opponent on the ballot, so there's no way the seat could be in play. This would be a very daunting seat for Dems in any event. Bush took 62.1% in this district, which makes it a bit more GOP than the Doolittle seat (61.3%), which has far more reason of this type to be competitive, but certainly isn't.
I wonder what the background was for this transaction...
Click the keyword Gary Miller. :-)
Thanks!
