Giuliani Sprints in Carolina As Band Plays ‘New York
The New York Sun ^ | 8/17/06 | RYAN SAGER

GREENVILLE, S.C. — If Rudy Giuliani does run for president in 2008, the Palmetto State is everything that's supposedly going to trip him up in the primaries: It's Southern (Mr. Giuliani's a Yankee), it's religious (61% evangelical, the sixth highest concentration in the nation), and it's predisposed to go with the guy whose "turn" it is (think Bob Dole in 1996).

But none of those hurdles seemed terribly high as Mr. Giuliani sprinted from event to event yesterday, starting with a fund-raiser for a local GOP congressional candidate in Greenville, moving on to a motivational speech around the corner, and finishing up with another fundraiser at night for the state GOP, on the other side of the state in Charleston.

Wow...Rudy doing well down in Dixie.... the former chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party and the finance chair of President Bush's re-election campaign is now is committed to Rudy outright, should he run. The good news just keeps on coming.

If Rudy gets the nomination (and I think he can) he'll beat anyone the Dems can put up against him.

He may have issues with the conservative base, but that will more than be offset by the middle ground swing votes. He would stomp Hillary.

The good news just keeps on coming.

The only good news, as it concerns RINO Rudy's potential run for President, is if he changes his mind and retires instead. Rudy is a RINO of the worst sort and few real Republicans will have any desire to vote for him.

The biggest issue in '08 will continue to be the war on terror, as it should be. The paleo-conservatives think we should withdraw into ourselves, and the sooner Israel is pushed into the sea the better for all of us; none of the more mainstream conservative contenders for '08 have distinguished themselves on the issue of prosecuting the war on terror; Rudy stands head and shoulders above everyone on the issue.

Rudy is a nice guy. But, he will not play outside of NY.

He could probably beat Hillary though.

He'd have my vote too, and that of quite a few Republicans I've talked to.

It appears he's playing in South Carolina.

He'd play well in Texas, too.

The WOT is front-of-mind for voters, and for Republicans. And nobody, but nobody, holds a candle to Guliani in the WOT.

He would crush her simply by grabbing the NYC state electoral votes.

Game, Set, Match.

The threat of a Hillary presidency would bring out even more conservatives to vote against her, than the Bush - Kerry election.

Iowa voted for Gore in 2000 and for Bush in 2004. Rudy would stomp Hillary here--no question.

few real Republicans will have any desire to vote for him.

Every poll has the nomination race being between Giulani and McCain. Everyone else is in single digits. Freepers' favorate son, Tom Tancredo, gets 3% at best. You can't say that "few real Republicans will have a desire" to vote for Rudy. More than a few, in fact a plurality in some polls, are already supporting him.

Nationally, Rudy is the top pick among evangelical Christians. And the same is true, regionally, in the south.

And the more exposure he gets, the better he'll do. Rudy is a leader, and he's fearless.

And he won't call anybody a "macaca."

Hey Spiff,

Have you considered the fact that YOU might be the RINO?
