Grisly slayings, modest theft

RICHMOND -- A man accused of killing a Richmond musician's family hog-tied each of his four victims, stabbed them with a knife, cut their throats and bashed them in the head with a hammer, a prosecutor said yesterday. In return for all the bloodshed, the prosecutor said, Ricky Jovan Gray and his purported accomplice made off with just three items: a computer, a wedding ring and some cookies. Gray's role in the New Year's Day slayings of musician Bryan Harvey, 49, his wife, Kathryn, 39, and daughters Stella, 9, and Ruby, 4, was not contested by Gray's defense attorney, who told the court in opening statements that Gray has taken full responsibility for the killings and makes no excuses for his actions that day.

Ping for later review and possible similarities to Copt family murders in NJ.

It's just dangerous to keep a firearm around the house.

Saaaay, that's a lot of work. I surprised he didn't steal the whole bag of cookies.

Have the usual suspects come out demanding compassion for this guy yet?

Hmmm, I'm not a sadist, but I'd like to do to him what he did to that poor family. I'd hope I wouldn't, but I'm afraid I would enjoy it.

Not really. I haven't heard anyone except the guy's lawyer asking for any compassion. Bludgeoning the two little girls with a hammer is just evil beyond words. IMHO, the general feeling is that the guy should fry.

Just wait. If this guy is sentenced to death, the perp-lovers will be holding candlelight vigils.

I have followed this story but until yesterday I hadn't heard the details of the actual murders. I was sickened to hear how he killed the family. Most of the news was focusing on the jury and how the defense was trying to get jurors who would sentence him to life in prison instead of the death penalty. The way it was portrayed in the reports I heard, the defense attorney had conceded a guilty verdict and was aiming for the penalty phase.

They always do. I hope that by the time the appeals process winds it way through that we'll have a different governor. Our liberal dem gov would probabaly commute the sentence.

Only if it involves razor wire, 2x4s and a 55 gallon drum at the local race track......

I thought it was quick. I'm only half listening to the radio so I missed that detail.

killing more than one person in a three-year period

Gray violated the state's rationing laws. You only get one killing every three years. That sounds pretty restrictive.

This guy rates death by lead pipes and blow torches, with periodic transfusions to make it last about three weeks.
