They are a matter of historical record.

And something left out of the high school world-history class
I had a few decades ago.

I suspect I missed it because the class was taught by one of the
football coaches (nice guy, no scholar).

I suspect today's kids don't hear it due to politically-correct
white-washing (just plain old revisionism).

My husband likes to relate a comment made by a young woman in a college class, she was commenting on a holocaust movie, said "oh, that didn't really happen, it was just a movie".
