Thank you for the welcome, I've seen the Canteen threads from time to time, but never had a reason to post on one before. Of course support for the military is a given for any rational American, and I have a cosine in the Navy right now, (we were pretty close, I practically lived at his house as a kid), but as I said I've never had a reason to post. As a heraldist though I have copious amounts of knowledge on this particular subject. I did notice, while reading over this thread, several references to dubious “findyourfamilycotofarms.com” type websites. Don't know if anyone has pointed out yet but pretty much all of them are bogus. In fact the litmus test for fake “find your coat of arms” websites is that they are websites offering to find a "Family Coat of Arms, or Crest." That is, they effect to identify a tabard “coat” or a “crest” as opposed to an “armorial achievement;” which is what people are really thinking of when they say “family crest” or “family Coat of Arms.”
