An American citizen who once lived in the North Bay is now in custody in Thailand in connection with the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. The suspect, John Karr, lived for a time in the North Bay.
41-year-old John Karr and his then-wife, Laura, once lived in Petaluma. She told us they were married back in 1989 and lived in Alabama until the year 2000 when they moved to Petaluma.
Karr taught in the Petaluma School District as a substitute schoolteacher from December of 2000 until April of 2001. The district says they had no complaints about him. Karr also spent time as a teacher in Napa during the same period.
In the year 2001, Karr was charged with five counts of possessing child pornography. His teaching credential in Petaluma was suspended, then revoked for violating the education code.
He is still wanted in California. A warrant is still out for his arrest for failure to appear on those charges.
Laura Karr filed for divorce after her husband was charged in 2001. She says her husband did a lot of research on the JonBenet Ramsey case and also on Petaluma's own Polly Klaas.
She tells us she's devastated and embarassed by these murder charges, but she does not believe that her husband did it. She says that during Christmas season of 1996 when JonBenet Ramsey was strangled and beaten to death in Colorado, they were living in Alabama at the time and she was with him the entire Christmas season.
M4K: That 2001 date fits the subject, no?
But then there's the Alabama angle..and that he follows these types of cases...
Still no link to Boulder.
Interesting...
I'll bet she is... this isn't the sort of fame one wants.
"She says her husband did a lot of research on the JonBenet Ramsey case and also on Petaluma's own Polly Klaas."
Creepy
Has anyone mentioned whether he ever lived or visited Colorado?
Maybe he wants to get into a prison in the US.
Forgot to ping you to this. Sorry.
I think that he just wants to come back to the states. If he's read up on the Ramsey case for so many years maybe he was able to find details that others don't know. I hope that the cops have finally got their man but I'm suspicious.
..either they're covering for him ...(I doubt an ex-wife would do that)...or he didn't do it, and simply wanted to be extradited to the US, rather than face prison in Thailand.
...my opinion
That's what I said on a couple of other threads...
Can find no Colorado link.
I wwould like to know how long he's been teaching and if he ever has been in construction
After this stunning news.. Shermy... I expect we will be hearing next OJ found the real killers on the golf course.
Could this be his son? http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=15994899
Good detective work!
Have you heard anything about him writing sick letters?

if this person did do it, they are going to have to answer all of the unanswered questions about how he committed every aspect of the crime - getting into the house, the notes, etc.
please explain the DNA match.
It could be that he's not a suspect but a "person of interest."
