I don't agree with his politics, but there is no arguing that he has earned the right to say what he wants. Anything he wants?
Are you serious??

Murtha served on active duty during the Korean conflict but never left the U.S.

It's a free Country and anyone can say what they want. That freedom also allows others to point out what a POS someone is for saying what they want, ex-military or not.

Unless there is some serious information about wrong doing .. I wouldn't touch this article with a 10 foot pole
It's his service in Congress that I have a problem with .. not his service in the military

Murtha served on active duty during the Korean conflict but never left the U.S.I know, also he didn't become an officer until after he completed college and joined the reserves, however you'd never know that from this article.

Why don't we ever see a detailed account of what these supposed military heros actually did? I've got nothing but respect for guys who actually behaved bravely under truly trying circumstances (Bob Dole for example)but I suspect that there are a lot of band aid purple hearts being used to manufacture reputations. Bill Mauldin drew a cartoon during WWII that showed GI Willie standing in front of a medical guy at a desk. The caption was " I've already got a purple heart, just give me a bandaid." I suspect that Kerry, Murtha, and the like reversed that comment.

Murtha served on active duty during the Korean conflict but never left the U.S. That is absolutely correct ... Murtha did not serve in Korea. Nor did he leave the shores of the U.S. while serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.

he has earned the right to say what he wants. Very impressive background.Umm, no, he hasn't earned the right to say anything he wants. Not when he slanders currently serving marines!
As for his impressive background, GET SERIOUS! You want impressive? Look at the current JCS Chief, Pete Pace! Look at Norm Schwartzkopf! Look at Colin Powell! Too many to name who have truly impressive backgrounds! If Murtha impresses you, I'd like to know your impression of Jf'nKerry!

The Marine Corps mailed my Purple Hearts in a plain brown envelope to my POBox at Texas A&M. It was about 9 months after I was medically released (I went back in a year later after I recovered)

Randy "Duke" Cunningham had an impressive background too. That was then; this is now. There is no valor in what Murtha has done as a Congressman.
Good point. Frankly, until he accused the Marines like that I just thought he was a little odd but I still supported him saying whatever he wanted to. Now I wonder if someone does not have the goods on him and is telling him what to say.

I think the part of the story that should be trumpeted is why he got his award, for activities that resulted in the deaths of many communists!
The left should be reminded that Murtha is possibly responsible for who knows how many NVA and Viet Cong "freedom fighters" being slaughtered. And that he wasn't just a soldier, he personally did everything short of dropping Napalm on their bullet-ridden bodies after signing their death warrants.
Yep, he should be called John "the commie-killer" Murtha.
I'm sure the left would understand.
To: usmcobra
Let's clear the air here. At best, as an S2, Murtha would have collected Intel from some poor grunt, living in a hole, under a shelter-half, with a handful of ARVNs,out in the boonies somewhere. It was that Marine or Soldier, who actually gathered that information, at great personal risk! And not the guy who merely collected it!

Hmm. Don't you think he has been turned on because he has slandered Marines, denigrated their mission and done everything in his power to erode public support for their mission?
Perhaps you should ask some Marines what they think of Murtha. I have. They refer to him as an Ex-Marine. That tells me something.
