'Hybrid Mutant' Found Dead in Maine {REAL MONSTER Alert!]
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/16/06 | AP

(08-16) 13:55 PDT Turner, Maine (AP) --

Residents are wondering if an animal found dead over the weekend may be the mysterious creature that has mauled dogs, frightened residents and been the subject of local legend for half a generation.

The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat. The carcass was photographed and inspected by several people who live in the area, but nobody is sure exactly what it is.

Michelle O'Donnell of Turner spotted the animal near her yard about a week before it was killed. She called it a "hybrid mutant of something."

"It was evil, evil looking. And it had a horrible stench I will never forget," she told the Sun Journal of Lewiston. "We locked eyes for a few seconds and then it took off. I've lived in Maine my whole life and I've never seen anything like it."

For the past 15 years, residents across Androscoggin County have reported seeing and hearing a mysterious animal with chilling monstrous cries and eyes that glow in the night. The animal has been blamed for attacking and killing a Doberman pinscher and a Rottweiler the past couple of years.

People from Litchfield, Sabattus, Greene, Turner, Lewiston and Auburn have come forward to speak of a mystery monster that roams the woods. Nobody knows for sure what it is, and theories have ranged from a hyena or dingo to a fisher or coydog, an offspring of a coyote and a wild dog.

Now, people are asking if the mystery beast and the animal killed over the weekend are one and the same...

Maine is a world apart from Massachusetts although it was once part of their territory. It is almost all privately owned and free of much of the liberal nonsense once one gets away from the south part and population centers, and is largely unspoiled. Still possible to get land at a decent price, and stunningly beautiful if you like the wild.

Oh I have plans to get up there one day. My husband and a buddy rode their motorcycles up there years ago (before we were married). His cousin lives in Vermont too. Also, an old friend of mine has a brother who owns a kayaking business up in Maine. She always told me if I go up there to look him up; I'd have to check with her though about the name of the business. I know his last name is Murton.

That is great news that finally real meat gets added to the diets of the kiddies. Cynical me, I thought all they were allowed to have is the Twinkies and snack foods which must be not bio-degradable.

We love our state. An old military buddy from forty years ago, who spent most of his life on the east coast came to visit a couple weeks ago, had never been further than Massachusetts either. He left, nearly in a state of shock and wonder at the scenery.

It looks more populated than it is because houses line most of the roads, but one does not see their back yards may go for miles of woods.

The only thing that worries me about you guys up there is that whole part of the country seems to be very, very liberal - I know Vermont is for sure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It is a paradox. I grew up in Oregon before it went as liberal as it is today. Was shocked at all the freedoms enjoyed by Mainers after knowing Oregon. Lots of private property here, laws not so aggravating.

But the population centers and even quite a few town halls are filled with displaced liberals determined to bring their values into Maine. Yet, our other place is in an area with no zoning whatsoever, pretty much hands off. No gun registration, easy to get concealed carry permits, no knowledge or concern by the State as to what kind of weapons we have.

People are safe in their own homes and criminals are not so likely to burst into a house here thinking they will remain unharmed.

Govt doesn't have much of a hold on many things in Maine, liberal as it is. Most woodland is private, so woods are not subject to the comical rules and meddling applied elsewhere. Very few fires, big fires like out west hard to imagine.

But yeah, we have super liberal politicians, RINO senators, and Massachusetts-type liberals who would love to implant their values.

Two questions - what kind of jobs are up there? Also, is housing reasonable? Just wondering. I don't think I'd want to move up that way - the states I like are Idaho, North Carolina, and New Mexico, as far as me moving my butt out of Ohio.
