A Lebanese general was ordered arrested Wednesday for appearing in a videotape drinking tea with Israeli soldiers who had occupied his south Lebanon barracks during their incursion of the country.
Brig. Adnan Daoud was summoned and ordered held for questioning, Interior Minister Ahmed Fatfat said in a statement. Daoud is commanding officer of the 1,000-strong joint police-army force that had positions in southern Lebanon and was based in Marjayoun.
Israeli troops seized the barracks there last week and held him and 350 soldiers for a day before allowing them to leave the occupied zone. The Lebanese garrison, which is lightly armed, did not resist the Israeli force which moved in armor into the base.
In the videotape, aired on Israeli television and carried by a Lebanese TV station Wednesday, Daoud was shown having tea with smiling Israeli soldiers and walking with them in the base courtyard. ~snip~ Lebanon is in a state of war with Israel, although it signed an armistice in 1949. To this day, Lebanon does not recognize the State of Israel.
Lebanese law forbids any dealings with Israel. A Lebanese citizen faces arrest and prosecution for having such dealings. In 2000, after Israel withdrew its army from southern Lebanon, those who worked for the Israelis were arrested tried and given jail terms ranging from a few months to several years. Those civilians who fled to Israel and later returned were also arrested and given prison terms.
To this day, Lebanon refuses entry to any foreigner who has an Israeli entry or exit stamp on his passport.

Lebanon has technically been at war with Israel since 1949.

People need to realize that Lebanon really doesn't have an army. At best, it has a website.

Wrong. It has a website and a jobs program. The jobs program has clothes you are expected to wear.

the current Lebanese President and PM should both be bombed into pink mist and replaced with this guy post haste.
Anyone see the Leb Prez on Fox? what a slimey snake and lying a-hole. Israel should go back and finish the job . With any luck , that will cause those cowards in Syria and Iran to make a misstep and we can use that as the opportunity to totally wipe them out too.
I hope this is being thought of at 'the highest levels'....

We have General Yahya something or other from Iran threatening us and Interior Minister Ahmed Fatfat in Lebanon.
is this the Onion, or what?
Half the time I think they're making up silly names to make fun of us. It's like when the Iranian hostage taker back, in the bad old days of the peanut president, put his foot up on the table to show the "scars" from the Shah's supposed "torture" of him. Showing the souls of your feet to someone in that culture is a deadly insult. His feet obviously had no scars and no one got the insult to the western press he was talking to for weeks, until someone who understood the culture finally clued them in. Ted Kopel was stunned.
They hate us. They want to enslave or kill us. We should never quote them about anything, but should get someone who actually understands the culture (MEMRI.ORG is a good example) to decode what was said or done, and then report only on that.
You must never invite a demon into your dwelling. They cannot cross your threshold without your permission. I refuse to give them my permission. That includes listening to them.

Once upon a time, this was the way honorable soldiers were supposed to treat each other, especially officers.
For example, when enemy officers were captured they were allowed to walk free if they would give their "parole" (word) that they would not engage in further hostilities until they were exchanged for captured officers of the other country.
Those traditions pretty much died with World War I.
