Every picture I've ever seen of it was a large black cube. Given their mentality, I'll stick to my analogy..
This is the "structure". ~ your basic stone building which is protected from the elements by a large outer structure of teak finished over with stainless steel:

You can estimate the size of the stone from the hand to the left.
Islamic belief is that this is the site of Abraham's altar. Supporting that idea is a collection of fosil timbers under or near the stone. My informants found their time nearest this site too limited to get much of an idea what all was there.
