Authorities have identified a Kingston man as the owner of a large stash of illegal arms, some of them military weapons, banned for civilian use. The weapons cache was found in storage units in Pembroke and Kingston.
Police in Pembroke and Kingston allege the weapons belong to Donald Govoni, 47, of Kingston. The investigation stems from the discovery of military-caliber weapons in a rented storage facility on Old Oak Street in Pembroke. As of Tuesday, Govoni had not been located. Authorities are seeking an arrest warrant as he did not have the necessary permits to store the weapons.
The stash of weapons included silencers, shotguns, semi-automatic weapons and what was described as possibly a rocket launcher.
The Pembroke storage unit had been rented to a man whose last known address was Kingston. Workers at the storage facility found the illegal weapons while cleaning out the unit. The person renting the space had not paid overdue rental fees.
On Wednesday, Aug. 9, Kingston and Pembroke police executed a search warrant for Govoni's residence at 14 Mountain Ash Dr., Kingston. Police said they were looking for additional firearms, rifles, shotguns, military weapons and ammunition banned for civilian use.
Following up on the Pembroke weapons discovery, authorities received permission to search the Storage King facility on Marion Drive in Kingston where Govoni leases another storage unit.
As a result of the search, police found two semi-automatic handguns, two shotguns, one assault rifle, three rifles, 3, 558 rounds of ammunition, and nine switch blades.
Kingston Police Chief Joseph Rebello said the weapons were in the storage containers, along with piles and boxes of old newspapers, books and other miscellaneous items.
Big frickin' deal. Most of my firearms are "military caliber". In fact, many of them are military surplus.
.303 British, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x39, .30 Carbine...
3,558 rounds of ammunition
The guy had a paltry 3,558 rounds of ammo? That's pathetic.

Big deal. Unless the man has a history of violence, or made threats to harm others, so what?

Uh-oh. Now that's alarming.
Geez, I got that beat.
The article doesn't make clear just what sorts of "military weapons, banned for civilian use" the man had.
holymoly....that be a gun BOB...there all BADDDDDDD
In April of 1775 the government sent an armed force to seize privately help munitions from the residents of Massachusetts. The locals resisted famously at Concord and Lexington. The long term result was the establishment of the United States.
What an irony that the present day government of Mass. has such a hostile regard for arms held by private citizens.
No kidding. Some of the most popular hunting cartidges in the U.S. (past and present) are/were "military caliber"...
.30-06, .308 Winchester (7.62x51 Nato), .47-70 Government, .30-40 Krag, etc., etc.
What a piker this guy is. I've got 7 rifles in .30'06 alone.
knowing the pansy media, it was most likely a dewat or a flare gun. besides, i thought rocket/grenade launchers were legal, it was just the rocket/ grendes that were illegal.
.30-06?
The launchers for flares fire a 37mm shell. The good ones are 40mm. They are classed as 'destructive devices' by the feds. I feel sorry for anyone who continues to live in Massachusetts. That state went to hell in the 70's.
I think we're both in trouble.
Stocked up on ammo for all my weapons for the Y2K.
Don't come to my house.
