They shouldn't count their chickens before they're hatched. If they try to punish Lieberman for running and winning the general election as an independent after losing the DemocRAT primary, he might just decide to vote with the Republicans in the matter of organization of the Senate. The Republicans could give him a chairmanship comensurate with his seniority.

Perfectly stated.
I don't have a problem with Liberals. I have a problem with some of their ideas...most of them. But Leiberman, Koch, Silver, and Hitchens are Liberals. Okay, Hitchens can foam irrationally at the mouth when anything having to do with religion comes up...but for the most part we can co-exist and do political warfare without endangering our national security in the process.
Not so with the Leftists that have taken control.
Leiberman is the last true Liberal in the Senate. There are a few opportunists, as you described, mainly from "red" states and should Leiberman win I suspect they wouldn't be adverse to forming a new type of coalition within the party with him. But they have no true beliefs. In the House? There might be a couple of true Liberals, but it's hard to tell. But they are a dying breed.
Mostly you have the Hard Left, and you have the opportunists. It's my goal to kill off (politically speaking) the Hard left. In so doing, that would leave the last true liberal and the opportunists. More palatable to me then the people bouncing talking points off the madman in Iran.
But no one is capable of convincing me one of two major parties being left to be completely dominated by the Hard left is good for anyone. Other then the terrorists.
How has the ashtray hurling cankle responded if at all....?
Hezbullah has been getting their asses shelled back to the stone age for the past two weeks and when a cease-fire is called, they declare victory and begin shooting fireworks.
But Lieberman would be wrong for suggesting that a premature U.S. troop pullout from Iraq would be seen as a victory for the terrorists? Lieberman is right. The Dems are so knee-deep in their own BS that they lash out now when anybody says anything halfway sensible to them. They'd rather live in their own fantasy world.
If elected Lieberman has already said he will caucus with the Democrat party.
They would welcome him and all will be forgiven.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the vote was so close that military absentee ballots were the deciding factor and Lamont blocked them from being counted?
Eyes rolling tongue hanging out confused..
Keep it up Joe.. you're a credit to your party..
They sure expect Lamont to lose, eh? And so now they are pulling out all of the stops to get Joe to quit, but that's not gonna happen.
"If he continues to alienate his colleagues, Lieberman could be stripped of his seniority within the Democratic caucus should he defeat Democrat Ned Lamont in the general election this November, according to some senior Democratic aides."
If the Dems think they have problems now, just wait. Man, Christmas might come early this year!
If Joe starts a new party, I will at least listen. He speaks more common sense than alot of the idiot conservatives I have to listen to down here in Texas.
Ain't no way they are gaining 5 seats. These polls are useless if not phony. Will not be surprised if they lose 2 or 3 more counting a successful Liberman Ind. win.

As Stata-Sphere blog puts it, the Dems may be chasing him right into the GOP caucus
"undermine their message."
Lieberman is CLARIFYING the fact that their message is just WRONG.
During the 2000 election it became painfully clear that the presidential candidate sets the policies and the VP candidate has to swallow his pride and salute. Sen. Lieberman's push against Hollywood becoming a "nudge" is an example. As such, a McCain/Lieberman ticket is possible. They agree on Iraq & GWOT. Their other differences can be papered over.
Maybe the Dems will have Bubba come down and campaign with ol' Joe again. That oughta finish him off.
Why isn't the media presenting Lieberman as a "maverick" Democrat?
