I saw how quickly Colmes mentioned the internment of the Japanese in 1942. However there wasn't a word about the Germans and Italians who were interned in the camps in Texas.

We had some first generation Germans living near us in the '30's in SW Oklahoma, and they weren't bothered by any authorities.
In fact, their son was a friend of mine. He enlisted in the Army Air Force, and flew 25 missions over Germany as a B17 gunner.
But some of the captured German and Italian solders, POW's, were brought to the States and held in POW camps in Texas and Oklahoma. Could this be whereof you speak?
