Former President Ford was admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on Tuesday for "testing and evaluation," his office said in a statement.
The statement gave no further details on why the 93-year-old former chief executive went to the clinic.
"No further releases or updates are anticipated prior to early next week," said the statement issued from his office in Beaver Creek, Colo. Ford also has a home in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
No other information was released by the clinic.
"I can verify that the statement is correct and I have no other additional information," said John Murphy, the Mayo Clinic spokesman.
A message seeking comment from Ford chief of staff Penny Circle was not immediately returned.
Last month, Ford spent a few days in Colorado's Vail Valley Medical Center because of shortness of breath.
In January he spent 12 days in a Rancho Mirage hospital for treatment of pneumonia.
Ford suffered two small strokes five years ago and spent about a week in a hospital.
He became the nation's oldest living former president after the death of Ronald Reagan in 2004.
Ford was House minority leader when President Nixon chose him to replace the resigned Spiro Agnew as vice president in 1973. Ford became president on Aug. 9, 1974, when Nixon resigned amid the Watergate scandal.
He's 93 for cripes sake! What are they testing him for, crude oil? ;-)
Thank you, Mr. President, for all you did to get us through some trying times.
Brain
I guess they told you! What an obnoxious graphic!
Seriously, he's a good guy who helped bring the country back together. I hope all is well with him.
President Ford worked for my father before he decided to run for congress and then to the oval office.
I and my family wish him well.
Nothing to see here. Ford's just going in for his 100,000 mile tuneup a little early.
I have a lot of respect for President Ford. He knew when to use his veto pen. He was a sincere, pleasant person. And he was a helluva athlete back in the day.
Prayers for President Ford.
Is that clearer.....?
Sorry for confusion.......
And you can bet your a$$ that he's got better odds of survival than Fidel...
BUMP
Prayers for President Ford and his family. He' one of the good guys.
All very true. He was honest. And the Dems laughed when he fell down the steps of AF1.
Having lived through the Ford administration, with so many things he was known for, it's funny that what I remember most about Gerald Ford was the scene in the movie Beverly Hills Cop II.
The three detectives are in a strip club, and Eddie Murphy lets it be known that the older cop is Gerald Ford ("But don't tell anybody, he's just here to have a good time.")
Of course, soon everybody in the place "knows", and they give the older cop a standing ovation.
I suspect that when president Ford heard about or saw that scene, he probably got a good laugh.
