How are the areas holding up that have had fires in recent years? Recovery is extremely slow. Decades.
Or controlled burns...if they still do that sort of thing.

Sounds like a lot of accumulated deadwood. That is one thing I like about controlled burns...when you do have a fire, it is not quite as devastating; there just isn't enough fuel.
