I agree that children should be well-behaved in public, but if you put a big Thomas-the-Tank-Engine display in the middle of your store and invite children to play on it, you're going to get some squealing and excitement. It's not reasonable. If the bookstore is going to be a place for quiet, take out the things that encourage three-year-old boys to get excited.

I thought the same thing, the reason the book store put the train table in the store was to create a place for parents to bring their kids, thereby spending more time and increasing the likelihood they buy something.

They need Sir Topham Hatt to calm the children like he does to the engines.

Kids don't have to squeal and roughhouse to play Thomas the Tank Engine. They need to be TRAINED to behave the way YOU want them to behave. Else they might as well be raised by wolves.

We solved the problem in our store. We purchased 50 electric spark dog collars that send a shock to the dogs neck when they bark. It works on children also and we've had only one electrocution accident. Great gadgets!!

I have to agree with you. Or the store could wall it off so the sound is contained. It isn't reasonable for the store to provide a place for kids to play and then expect them not to make any noise while doing so.
