A Texas firm that manages hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps says it has not been authorized to divulge a detailed accounting of the funds, despite assurances by the MCDC's top official that it would do so.
Maureen E. Otis -- president of American Caging Inc. in Stafford, Texas, an agency hired to collect, deposit and disburse donations to the civilian border-patrol group -- told The Washington Times that neither MCDC President Chris Simcox nor the group's board of directors had given her permission to "disclose any numbers."
Mr. Simcox, who has been criticized by current and former MCDC members for a lack of leadership and financial accountability, had referred The Times to Mrs. Otis, saying she could "tell you everything" to clear up the concerns.
Instead, Mrs. Otis issued a statement saying only that all Minuteman donations have been "securely collected, counted and deposited" in MCDC bank accounts.
Telephone calls to Mr. Simcox in Phoenix, where he reportedly is on paternity leave, were routed to Minuteman spokeswoman Connie Hair in Virginia, who said the organization was not going to release "any unaudited numbers." She said that an audit will be completed in November and that any release of figures prior to that "is just not going to happen......."

Either they are clean or they aren't, but I would think that they would be RUSHING to prove they are clean, yet they aren't. As Simcox mentioned on O'Reily last night, if they were to release anything now and then in Novemnber when the official reports came out even if they are over or under just a dollar, you people will be all over them again. You guys want to see the border security movement fail. Nothing will be good enough for y'all.

When Simcox said a reason they don't disclose now is that if they were off a dollar, they would be criticized They absolutlely would be. You people are already on a witch hunt for anyone involved in the grassroots border security movement.

You know, if they had good accounting practices, they WOULDN'T need six extra months to file the reports.

"I suspect, since the MMP has been so effective at embarassing the thugs in DC, this is an attempt to discredit him, and the MMP."
My thoughts, too. Besides, the Washington Times has the credibility of the NYT. So, why is anybody buying the hogwash they print...

Gotta be. They show all the signs, first the stonewall, then the denunciations of the critics.
Who else, in the past 4 years, did the same thing?
HINT: we invaded his country which is situated north of Kuwait, West of Iran, South of Turkey and East of Jordan.....

No we don't. That's the furthest thing from the truth. If you can't see that this is only an issue of accountability then there isn't much use for you to even read these threads.

...the non profit application process takes at most about six months from application submittal to decision
Well, Otis filed a copyright with the federal government May 10, 2005 on behalf of her client the MCDC in 2005. She specifically filed them as
"Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Inc. CHARITABLE CORPORATION ARIZONA 168 4850 Wright Road Stafford TEXAS 77477"
and listed their activities as:
Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is a non profit organization organized for the purpose of promoting through education, advocacy and activism, a nationwide citizens neighborhood watch along the US border; Minuteman Civil Defense Corp will raise contributions from the general public to support its efforts; Information about the organization and its activities will be sent in the US mail
Should we therefore assume that she or someone initiated the non-profit paperwork around or before that date? What a total crock.

I don't see anything there about supporting candidates. Did I miss something?
To: Bob J
Did Otis lie about the MCDC's status on the Copyright filing? I think one could assume so. Penalties for doing so? Possibly?
Are we supposed to believe that the MCDC's Caging company/attorney led by Maureen Otis is incapable of obtaining a non-profit status after OVER A YEAR from when she stated to the Copyright office that the MCDC was was a non-profit?
To: Ms. AntiFeminazi
That would be their PAC. That is where candidate contributions would come from. Filed separately.
btw, are those boob's in jmc813's tagline? "(.)(.)" Looks like boobs to me.

It is illegal to represent that you are a NP when you are not. The reason for this is so donors are not misinformed of your tax status and accidentally list their donation as a deduction.
