On Sean Hannity's radio talk show today they were talking about the middle east men who were found with 1000 cell phones in Michigan. They had pictures & diagrams of the long Makinac bridge with them. The bridge connects the two parts of Michigan.
A caller from Michigan wondered why the bridge might be a possible terrorist target. She pointed out that the bridge is not a major thoroughfare. The caller said that there will be a kind of celebration or festival coming up soon. Part of this will be a temporary closing of the bridge during which will be a walk across the bridge by as many as 60,000 people.
I can just imagine 1,000 smal explosive devices such as acetone and peroxide with some of iron oxide and aluminum shavings mixed with some willy pete going off like a stream of firecrackers, each device a small claymore in range and with a deadly hail of high speed projectiles like BBs or jumping jacks. Eack device could be cleverly concealed as a construction warning cone to keep a safe lane open for emergency vehicles while 60,000 people are making the annual transit on the bridge.
Massive panic as scores are trampled, many decide to jump off the bridge as they are consumed in flames, mobile screaming funeral pyres and are captured doing so on live TV. Gore and body remnants splatter cables, roadway and columns. The bridge itself is intact but over 75% of those that were on it are injured.
I am hoping Tom Clancy will make use of this idea in a future book, he has predicted similar events.
In early reports, authorities said that they had a picture of "one of the spans" of that bridge. Obviously, for a bridge walk they would only close one span to car traffic. I'd be curious to see if that connection was made.
Second, I suspect this is more of an operation to buy up phones and ship them back to Iraq for roadside IED purposes.
Which, if that may be the case, what if the FEDS were already on to them and were tracking them in order to catch bigger fish? Just a thought...
