To me, Tom Gallagher's biggest negatives are increased taxes and increased insurance rates, both of which happened on his watch and it was his cabinet position that put him on top of both.

Were taxes increased by Gallagher or the legislature? Also, increased insurance is a way of life in Florida. We're hurricane fodder. I don't see how something happening "on his watch" makes him responsible per se.

You and I are both well aware of that. The typical voter is not aware of it and they love to blame other people for what happens in their lives. As they write out their checks for insurance they unwittingly personalize the blame and politicians connected with insurance regulation are targets. It's human nature.

We don't have any problems with informed voters....it's all the rest of them and you can already see it happening.

I don't see how something happening "on his watch" makes him responsible per se.

It clearly doesn't, except to most of the voters who don't pay attention.

It looks like you don't have a problem with Gallagher, per se, but with uninformed voters who think he's a bad politician. Is this right?

Two top advisors to Tom Gallagher's electoral campaign campaign quit this week. Political strategist David Johnson resigned by letter and David Browning, the campaign's finance director, quietly walked away from the shaky campaign for the governorship of Florida.

Despite the bad news that advisorss are jumping ship, poor financing, and a very weak showing in polls, Gallagher announced he intends to stay the course and remain in the race for the Republican nomination.

Gallagher will fail, and his doggednessd will only hurt Charlie Crist by costing him money he will need to fight the election proper

Tom Gallaghers' latest TV ad includes "Tom Gallagher won't let offshore insurance companies hold your home hostage. Tom Gallagher, fighting for the American dream."

Tom Gallagher is being economical with the truth.

He looks after insurers at the expense of Floridians;

Insurance insiders know that for three years he and his Department of Financial Services danced with White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd, a Bermuda-based financial services holding company with major interests in the reinsurance market, and even today Gallagher refuses to enforce the law against these offshore pirates who seem to think they are immune from prosecution as they blatantly violate Florida's statutes every day.

Sirius International, a White Mountains subsidiary reinsurer is unlicensed in Florida yet has underwritten unlawful medical insurance plans in Florida for more than 5 years. The DFS investigated them for 3 years before deciding the company was acting unlawfully, but apparently chose not to fine them when their illegal activities were exposed

Steven Fass (photo left) is President of White Mountains. He knows Sirius is unlawful in Florida yet refuses to instruct them to stop writing there. His lawyers have met several times with DFS officials and finally they withdrew their application for a license in Florida in March '06, but even that acknowledgment they have no authority didn't stop them underwriting.

Despite clear violations of Florida's Insurance Code and Statutes by Sirius International Gallagher has not allowed his staff to force them to stop doing business in Florida, take any regulatory against them, or levy any monetary penalties.

Gallagher is cozying up to this offshore insurer and letting them get away with stealing taxes from Florida and writing millions of dollars worth of illegal insurance - is that his vision of fighting for the American dream?

Gallagher should be impeached and removed from the post of Treasurer for his massive wrongdoings with White Mountains.

It's clear that Gallagher is definitely not Governor material.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

THE ST. PETERSBURG TIMES ENDORSES CHARLIE CRIST

~ Liberal Paper’s Tradition of Opposing Conservative Candidates Continues~

The St. Petersburg Times, the Same Liberal Editorial Board That Endorsed John Kerry over George W. Bush in 2004, Bill McBride over Jeb Bush in 2002, Al Gore over George W. Bush in 2000 and Buddy MacKay over Jeb Bush in 1998 – is now Choosing Charlie Crist over Tom Gallagher.

“Although he never will be mistaken for a policy wonk or a visionary leader…He has delegated much of the day-to-day operations of the office…Crist still has a tendency to grandstand and embrace simplistic solutions to complicated issues. His proposed "Anti-Murder Act" to lock up more violent felons accused of probation violations has been rejected more than once by the GOP-led Legislature as too expensive and unworkable…his support of further tax breaks and spending initiatives don't balance, and he has no comprehensive plan for tackling the property insurance crisis. But to his credit, he has not emphasized social issues in this campaign and says he will not continue Bush's crusade to undermine the popular class size amendment.” (The St. Petersburg Times, 08/13/06)

The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed John Kerry over George W. Bush

“John Kerry is better choice for president: John Kerry isn't a perfect candidate. No one is. But he is an intelligent, principled leader who has demonstrated his commitment to his country on the battlefield and in public service. The Times recommends Kerry as the candidate best equipped to fulfill the promises George W. Bush made four years ago and failed to keep. (October 17, 2004)

The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Bill McBride over Jeb Bush “McBride for governor: Bill McBride is as experienced and accomplished as any Floridian in providing progressive civic leadership…McBride is the candidate best suited to forge the broad alliances required to deal responsibly with the challenges facing Florida…those looking for a leader who can bring Floridians together in a unified effort to improve our quality of life have a choice on Election Day. The Times recommends Bill McBride for governor.” (October 20, 2002)

The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Al Gore over George W. Bush

“Gore for president:…Superior depth, experience and policy priorities make the vice president the best choice to carry forward the achievements of the past eight years. Al Gore and George W. Bush are the products of a deeply flawed presidential selection process. We believe Vice President Gore is the clearly superior candidate; Bush cannot begin to match Gore's depth and experience, and some of the Texas governor's policy priorities would threaten the significant economic and social gains of the past eight years...The Times recommends Vice President Al Gore for president, because we feel he is the best choice to carry forward the historic economic and social progress of the past eight years. That progress, like the right to vote, should never be taken for granted.” (October 29, 2000)

The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Buddy McKay over Jeb Bush

“MacKay for governor: …political candidates should be judged not just according to the quality of their campaigns but also according to the quality of their lives. By that measure, Buddy MacKay's qualifications are not just superior to Jeb Bush's; they are exemplary…For that matter, whose hand would Floridians prefer to see on the governor's veto stamp the next time the Legislature approves a school prayer bill that ignores the rights of religious minorities, or a one-sided tort reform bill that denies citizens their day in court, or a broad school voucher bill that gives public money to private schools that don't meet existing educational standards?” (October 24, 1998)"

But, McCain endorsed Crist. That's an even bigger turnoff!

Tomorrow's news ought to be interesting if McCain shows up in Tampa tonight.

When Bill Nelson was insurance commissioner he took Florida out of the national risk pool and that was after Gallagher was insurance commish. We have lots of documentation of what Bill Nelson did to Floridians re: insurance.

crist doesn't deserve any more social promotions. he's a poor administrator and on the issues, he is uninformed, uneducated and totally out of touch. He lives in a vacuum with handlers guiding every word and movement. They are not conservatives. His handlers are LIBERALS.

Exactly. We're the "choir" (as in "preaching to the choir") and we all know our votes are going for the Republican candidate. We have to be able bring in the rest of the Republicans, independents and steal as many conservative Democrats as we can.

It can and probably will be done but it won't be a cake-walk and our candidates had better be up to it.

Crist is not in this scam. So if you support Gallagher after reading my post, you have my sympathy.

Terri Schiavo - dead. Martin Anderson - dead. Why are these innocent people dead and why was Crist absent before and after?

Charlie Crist stood idly by while a disabled woman of 41 was starved/dehydrated to death and while in state custody at a boot camp, a boy of 14, with his mouth covered up and ammonia shoved down his nose PERISHED.

He is weak and embraces a culture of death because it protects his friends in the judiciary and it protects his backers in law enforcement.

That is CHARLIE CRIST'S LEGACY as a failed Fl Attorney General. (that's some civil rights dept. he ran there - NOT!)

We're the unmarked cars "surveilling" you there at the Holiday Inn too or is that why you went there?

By the way, I have yet to apologize for anything Crist or anyone else has done. That's up to them to do it themselves, but I see you doing that very thing for Gallagher. Your kind of support is not the kind he needs...the same way Florida Democrats don't need Cindy Sheehan showing up at their rallies.

We have two pitiful candidates to choose from in this primary and they want to put a prettier wrapper on one of them....big deal!

The Democrats must be really getting excited.

The Dems are running against the President.

They are going to fight for protecting Social Security that George Bush wants gutted. And stem cell research because George Bush was wrong on that and the candidate's mother is diabetic and we can cure that and everything else with stem cells.

God, how I hate to hear how politicians are going to fight for me if they are elected.

The Dems are running against the President.

It tickles me when they waste all their venom on Bush and he isn't even running for office. They're just spinning their wheels and killing time throwing their little fits.

I guess he probably knows he is serving a good purpose by being the "target" and keeping them busy.
