Israel killed over 500 hesbullsh** troops. This is not losing except by perception and that is the problem. The muslim world percives that the hezzies won, therefore they won. Israel actually won this tussel. Their leader screwed up and could have made this a more decisive victory in which no one could dispute, but he didn't. Don't blame Bush, he gave Israel a green light, but Olmert decided not to use it and thought an air campaign would win big time. It didn't win as decisvely ad he thought and he was almost begging for a cease fire at the end.

They ran to claim terroritory so that would encourage the Lebaneese to negotiate. When they engaged the enemy they moved a few miles and that was it.
