BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Dissatisfied with Prime Minister Tony Blair's response to Britain's increased terror alert, a newspaper decided his vacation attire should speak for him.
The Australian paper The Age reported that the prime minister's eye-catching shorts were the featured headline of Britain's The Mail on Sunday, a move that indicates a growing public dissatisfaction with Blair's decision to remain on vacation in Barbados during a national crisis.
"Bold and Defiant. Well, the trunks are," read the paper's Sunday headline.
"This was the prime minister yesterday, sunning himself in his lurid swimwear on board the catamaran Good Vibrations as, apparently untroubled by world events, he continued with his family in the Caribbean," the Mail added in the accompanying article.
With all of Britain moving into its fourth day of a heightened terror alert, many have openly criticized Blair and some have compared his response to that of U.S. President George W. Bush, The Age said.
Wouldn't want to offend the terrorists.
Passport photograph of [5 year-ol] girl's bare shoulders rejected 'as it may offend (Guess who)' (The Daily Telegraph (UK) August 14, 2006)
Don't be nasty -- wait until you get to his age. You may need at least a size or two bigger.
I am already close to his age, and I still have a rock solid chest.
Where is he? It looks like he's standing in front of a clothes line ;^D
Little Miss Big Eyes? A cutie. Saw that earlier this am and blew me away. My kids have passports and they could have worn something showing their (GASP) bare shoulders just as easy as not. That incident is just a tiny sample of what it would be like with an Islamic government.
A better view of the offending clothing.
Don't forget the attempts to get American driver's licenses wearing burkas over the face.
Agree with you - Blair seems to have gynaecomastia.
Playing with the "photo op" is nothing new. Frank Capra attacked the press over this tactic in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.
I don't see anything wrong with his trunks. Idiot press.
THESE trunks have the media offended????
(Smacking forehead)
Also known as "Phil Mickelson Disease." In all seriousness, the problem can be caused by prescription drugs that are commonly used to treat prostate problems.
Did you see the LURID swim trunks in post 26? lol
There were multiple states where this has been asked. I think at least one has gotten such a license.
He sure did. That's my all-time favorite movie, BTW.
Florida appellate court rejected the claim of a Muslim woman who wanted to appear veiled in her driver's license photo, with only her eyes showing.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles issued [Sultaana] Freeman, 38, a license in 2001 showing her veiled with only her eyes visible, but later suspended it.
Freeman sued, claiming the suspension infringed upon her First Amendment rights.
In 2003, Circuit Judge Janet C. Thorpe agreed with authorities that letting people show only their eyes would undermine efforts to stop terrorists. That same year, Gov. Jeb Bush signed legislation requiring a picture of a driver's full face on a license.
The appeals court found enforcement of the law "did not compel Freeman to engage in conduct that her religion forbids -- her religion does not forbid all photographs."
How old is this media .... 5 ??
