Some commentators were saying they were held back by politics in Israel. Apparently some wanted the same kind of "war" Clinton tended to wage. I have no idea if this is true: hearing it on teevee doesn't make it so. However, if it is, it's another example of PC-ism and the damage it does. (Take note, Pentagon!)

Yes, I read that IDF had a plan developed over the last 2-3 years on how to tackle Hezbollah.
The first step was to start bombing the Hezbollah neighborhoods in Beirut before its leadership could find underground refuge. Hit Southern Lebanon at about the same time to remove has much of the command and control located there, communications and possible traffic lanes (i.e. Roads and bridges, airports etc.)
While this was happening, fly over the Hezies bunkers and drop massive amount of troops behind the Lebanese Southern tier along the Litani River to take control of a strip of land while a lane on the ground was made to bring in the heavy equipment.
Attack the dug in Hezies facing the Israeli border, prepared for a 1982 type of heavy invasion, from the rear when all re supply routes were cut off. This would have forced them out of their holes to fight in the open or to stay imbedded and starve and when they came out to fire their rockets they would have been picked off.
Instead the Israeli government decided to conduct an air campaign. They did take out a lot of long range launcher, failed away with little results in limited incursions and waited to the very last moment to send in the massive number of troops in a land invasion!

Olmert and Cabinet have a lot of answers to provide their citizens!
