I think I'll trust the word of the authorities over the word of a few islamderthals.
As far as the UP having no economic value, all I can say is that the bridge would have never been built if there were no ecconomic value.
I figured they would have something to do with Iraq. How many bombs out of the hundreds they would presumably set off here would actually be used successfully before they were caught? Of course, they seem fairly dense to attract so much attention to themselves as it is.
They said they send the chips overseas to be used in bombs.
That's an interesting angle, but it displays a whole lot more coordination than they've shown so far. This could just as easily happen at Summerfest, or Taste of Chicago, college or pro football games, or any other mass gathering.
Tracfone use is recorded like any other phone. Tracfone just resells Alltel/Verizon (CDMA), or Cingular/Dobson/TMobile/Virgin (GSM) air time. Tracfone gets an itemized bill with origin/destination, just like anybody else. There just ain't no anonymity.
Tracfone is for those with too poor a credit rating, though that's hard to believe there's anybody that low on the pole, considering credit cards are given to most anybody. It's also for those who just don't want the hassles of billing. The third possibility is that you need the coverage. The CDMA phones work absolutely everywhere on any CDMA system, and fall back to analog elsewhere. This superior geographic coverage is a big draw for a traveller. I have a CDMA Tracfone, the coverage is incredible.
The reason I call manure is the stories read like press releases. I suspect Verizon and Cingular don't want the price and quality competition that Tracfone causes, and they are orchestrating FUD through gullible reporters.
The weakness of the Islam Fascists is their propensity to go after the big kahunas. I pray to God they don't wise up soon to where we are REALLY vulnerable.
I have a tracfone myself. Can't beat it for the price at about $10 a month. My wife has a regular cellphone from Alltel but the monthly charges are ridiculous. When the contract expires I am getting her one of these tracfones.
The tracfones work just like any other cellphone and they have the added advantage of being able to work anywhere as they latch onto the towers of regular cell phone systems.
But I do take your point about disinformation. This story needs to be followed through to get the facts, however.
Combating Global Terrorism and Crime (+ Terror Cell in Torrance, CA)
I thought Foxnews had said something about this!
Could have been on KFI here in LA!
It's been on Fox News, including a brief comment this afternoon from the wife of one of the arrested terrorists (she was angry, naturally). A FReeper also has a map showing the location of mutiple similar recent cell phone busts - I'll try to find that link.
It was reported that the 'students' were planning on selling the phones for a profit.
That's erroneous.
They were planning to sell the chips for a PROPHET.
Another thread said that 65,000 people walk across the Mac Bridge on Labor Day.
Are we on the cusp of a connect-the-dots moment on the cell phones? Howie Carr, a local talk radio host in Boston, interviewed a police captain in Western Massachusetts this afternoon. The police official said that in late July, an illegal immigrant was arrested after buying an enormous quality of cell phones. He had driven cross-country from California, purchasing phones along the way. He has ties to the Middle East. And yes, you guessed it...a judge released him on bail and instructed him to appear in court this month. The MSM seems to be treating these episodes as isolated incidents. Anybody hearing of additional cell phone arrests in your local communities?
