My email to Ms Price -

I read your article today and your bout with "Gun Nuts"....

Lady you have no clue as to the conservative mind or those of us who support gun ownership.

Your stuck in your angry feminist ivory tower and promote legislation that is in violation of the constitution.

Guns don't and never have killed people....People Kill People.

What you propose could instigate a civil war in this country...have you thought of that...(and maybe its about time)

There is a reason there are red and blue states....and the adversarial divide is only further breached by you liberals who infest our world with socialsm, aids and the ACLU.

I think you fully deserved the blast you got from the "right"....perhaps you will take the time to think through your idealism and "readers digest" mentality.

Government is not and never will be the solution to man's ills....but the left would ram socialism down our throats and legislate morality....sorry but the authors of the constitution never envisioned that.

And us on the right are and will fight to make sure you liberals make no more inroads toward the destruction of the Constitution.

Hal Grxxxxxx

Yeah, and if a Mother-in-Law can't get access to a gun, she can beat the ungrateful kids over the head with a rolled up Newsweek.

My post will not get Jenny Price's attention because I will not call her names.

Her argument that the Second Amendment is not an individual right can be taken further to mean that the First Amendment is not an individual right, but a collective right given by government permission only.

Her brother's murder is regrettable, however, since California already has some of the strictest firearm laws in the nation, would it not make sense that it should have some of the lowest homocide rates?

Facts are an annoyance to those with an agenda.

Firearm deaths are decreasing as the ability to carry firearms is increasing.

Tougher prosecutions of criminals is another factor leading to a declining homocide rate.

Unfortunately, increasing the number of citizens carrying firearms and tougher punishment of criminals are views held by conservatives....another demonstration that conservative principles work and liberal principles (gun control, criminal rehabilitation) do not work.

Jenny Price must ignore reality to continue her joust with windmills.

If laws against guns will keep the guns away, why don't we create some laws against murdering people?

Oh, wait....

Make that a rolled-up LA Times.

And a jab in the eye, then a jab in the ribs, then the head. Who knows, it might work. Only a Mother-in-Law will ever find out.

Jenny, in case you Google this thread:

But like David's killer, thousands of law-abiding citizens annually become criminals when they pick up a firearm and shoot other people.

For the record, statistics prove that those who commit cold blooded murder are not law abiding citizens. Get real.

But when these gun-obsessed guys in their underwear talk to like-minded guys, they build a community that reinforces a level of intolerance that is off the charts. After all, the Internet doesn't create community. People create community — and how the Internet is used depends on the people who use it.

Just what are you insinuating here? Are you now wanting to ban free speech on the internet just because you are offended and don't like it?

And one more thing... If your brother and his fiancee had been stabbed to death, would you advocate a ban on knives? Follow the logic. There are plenty of ways to murder people. Are you going to just pick on this particular inanimate object and try to ban it?

A gun didn't kill your brother and his fiancee, a murderer did. When one wants to commit murder but doesn't have a gun, one will find a way to do so.

I agree that childish name calling belittles us but then there's that point where someone thinks it's perfectly ok to steal my property just so they can "feel better".

Jenny, you're just a thief. You just want the government to do it for you.

Maybe you should ask this lady if she's willing for you to steal her property. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060809/NEWS01/608090367

the Internet doesn't create community. People create community — and how the Internet is used depends on the people who use it.

Gee, Jenny - why doesn't this apply to guns as well?

Or maybe you want to ban the Internet, because, after all, some people use it for nefarious purposes...

"Ahem. Women use guns more often than people think. But it's usually not for purposes like this evil mother-in-law's. If it's even a real story. "

ahem, another question. Is it just the guy freepers that sit around in their underwear? I'm all for equal rights ya know.

But seriously that line of hers is a desperate attempt to discredit the people that have gutted the anti-gun industry.

...meanwhile, do you really want these people on these websites (and 40 million other people in the country) to have guns?...

Mind boggling. The triumph of emotion over fact, theatricality over logic...Ms Price uses a family tragedy to give moral authority to her political agenda, and is justly criticised online by Freepers. Selectively quoting from that criticism, she then accuses her critics of 'misogyny' and 'meanness.'

Am I being too cynical, in wondering whether the first op-ed was written to generate material for the second?

Further:

Lamentably, a double homicide by a friend or relative of the victims is an unremarkable news event in Los Angeles County, where 17 people, on average, are shot to death every week.

By her statistics that equates to:

17 X 52 = 884 murders in LA alone, per year
if you take the # of murders in LA and multiply that by
the amount of time we (as a country) have been fighting terror that equals.....
4420 deaths in LA alone.

But like David's killer, thousands of law-abiding citizens annually become criminals when they pick up a firearm and shoot other people.

And thousands, perhaps millions more become perjurers and felons by signing their tax forms every year, so what's your point?

But when these gun-obsessed guys in their underwear talk to like-minded guys, they build a community that reinforces a level of intolerance that is off the charts.

Yep. It doesent matter how we are dressed, it has something to do with the "shall not be infringed" part of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

First, off, Jenny Price, (in case you are lurking), It is a d@mned shame your brother got killed, no matter how it happened.

Believe it or not I am particularly grieved that it happened with a firearm--not (as cold as this may seem to you) because I knew or liked your brother, (I didn’t know him), but because you have chosen to vent your grief upon the device used rather than the person who used it.

Would you have felt equally moved to write an anti-hammer diatribe if he had been bludgeoned to death with a claw hammer? Would you have dutifully have researched the statistics on hammer murders and called for stricter controls on hammers? Kitchen knives? Lengths of iron pipe?

Probably not.

Without firearms, however, the same firearms which people use to defend their lives, the murder statistics for all those other devices and more might be far more impressive, simply because people of smaller stature or ill health or advanced age (not to mention the rest of us) would not possess the means to keep themselves from being beaten or stabbed, or even shot to death some 2.4 million times a year, every year.

I hope your grief does not deter even you from considering this means of protecting yourself, even though that hope is likely in vain. That decision is up to you, as much as it remains (as it should) an individual decision for all of the law-abiding folks out here.

Yes, as long as there are firearms, (as well as kitchen knives, claw hammers, and iron pipe) there will be those who decide at some point to misuse them. They remain a minority--a tremendously small one.

As for this comment,

(I'd rather be called a "spineless retard with the character of pond scum"). ,

I'll spare you.

Just don’t take out your grief over your brother's murder on the 80,000,000 of us who own guns and had nothing to do with it.

After briefly stating that David and his fiancee were shot and killed by the fiancee's mother, who was angry that she had to move out of their L.A. apartment, I went on to argue for a national ban on handguns.

After briefly noting that 3000 innocent people were killed by Muslim terrorists who were angry at the West, I went on to argue for a national ban on airplanes (or jet fuel, or skyscrapers, or office buildings).

What an idiot.

But the paranoia and bone-chilling hatred that spew from such sites as packing.org and freerepublic.com make for an equally — and unusually — effective argument for a ban on handguns.

C'mon Jenny, take that next step, you know you want to. Call for the banning of these sites.

Totalitarian twit.

A gun may have been the instrument of choice but NOT the source of the problem. It appears being in L.A.was the problem so ban L.A.!Truthfully,you will never have a more peaceful world so quit bothering everybody about it.

Which is a crock. We are equally harsh with liberals of the masculine gender.
