I read that article in the Globe, too, and the reasoning they gave is that homosexuals feel so comfortable going to other vacation spots and so many mini-Provincetowns have sprung up around the country that Provincetown has lost its monopoly. They're trying to regroup. Check out the article again.

A Sea Change in P-Town

And IMO, it was the Boston Globe's desperate attempt to spin Provincetown's tourism woes(i.e Provincetown can't survive as a homosexual mecca).
