I would agree with you if not for the fact that there are several unknowns. A divided Pakistan might have ended up too poor and easy fodder for fundamental Islam. Bangladesh is yet to show us gratitude for emancipating them from Punjabi-Pakistani rule. The soviets would have conquered Afghanistan and what would have stopped them from washing their boots in the Arabian sea at Karachi had we divided Pakistan at that stage? Iran was Anti-US, the Americans would have no toe-hold to stop the Soviet invasion, and maybe they would have found it really easy to take us down as well. The "Great Game" played out between the Russian and British empires was for the control of India. At our borders, the Russians might not have been as friendly. History is full of what-ifs. I am willing to bet more on the future today for how it turned out. The Americans are more dissed with the Pakis everyday. Israel has a stake in destroying Paki and Iranian nukes. So does America and Europe. It is a matter of time before the tides turn against the Islamic states, including Pakistan. We just have to undo our "No First-use" policy for our nukes and then the Pakis will dance.
