Terri herself was supposed to have a "vote" too. The degree of certitude needed may have met the technicalities, but those technicalities put the security of her life on the same plane as the question of who inherits her diamond ring. The law is worse than an ass here, it is a blasphemy.
Actually, I don't think most probate court judges would accept second-hand verbal declaration by interested parties in property disputes. So if Terri were a diamond ring, she might have fared better.
