TALLAHASSEE -- Republican Tom Gallagher is betting his political life on an appeal to Christian and social conservatives. And at least one of his supporters in those groups say their own future is at stake in Gallagher's quest to be governor.
Gallagher has earned the endorsement of Florida Right to Life, as well as vocal support of most social conservative leaders in the state. His goal: Win the hearts of Republicans most likely to get out and vote on Sept. 5.
passing it on.
I'm a FL resident and I intend to vote for Crist. He has an excellent record as Attorney General, has been endorsed by every police law enforcement organization, has been in the national forefront for his pioneering work in tough law enforcement against child molesters and pedophiliacs.
By the way, he's also been endorsed by Adam Walsh of national TV fame whose son was murdered. He's a fiscal conservative and intends to keep FL among the lowest taxed states in the union.
Crist, as Attourney General, had a duty to investigate the misreatment of people by Florida's hospices (Terri Schiavo being one of many). I've seen no effort that he's made any effort to do so. IMHO, an Attourney General who fails to act against people's crimes shares in the culpability for them.
So you are willing to give him a pass on his liberal social policy?
Ok.. so you count the unions as "law enforcement organizations"... as a law enforcement officer myself I strongly oppose the "law enforcement unions".....
EVERY is a very stong word... here are a few of Gallaghers endorcements that clearly make your asertion an exageration..
Bob Carver, statewide President of the Florida Professional Firefighters
Nancy McGowan, Victim Rights Advocate
Sheriff Roy Raymond of Indian River County
Sheriff Jack Parker of Brevard County
Major General Jim Dozier, U.S. Army Retired Co-Chair Bush-Cheney Veterans Steering Committee
General Jim Hart, USAF Retired - Co-Chair Bush-Cheney Veterans Steering Committee
Admiral Tom Morris, USN Retired - Co-Chair Bush-Cheney Veterans Steering Committee
I've said from the beginning of Crist's announcement for governor, he will be the next governor of the state.
He has the "appeal" that is necessary to carry Florida (old ladies have to like you, and you have to be able to convince Dems to vote for you, since we're actually a Democratic state that will elect a Republican governor.)
However, good, or bad that might be politically, he will win "hands down" over Gallagher, and then over the Dem opponent.
Crist may and probably will win, however he is not conservative. His win will be a detriment to the State of Florida. However they don't have much lower to go.
I can't stand Charlie Crist. He's a hack, and nothing more. His conduct during the Schiavo case was deplorable, and the child molester laws were not his idea whatsoever. He simply took credit for it after it was foisted on him after the Jessica case. If he was worth a damn, he'd have been taking care of rounding up wayward sex registrants before Jessica and he wouldn't have let that scoundrel of a DA get away with letting Couey's accomplices off scott-free.
But no matter. I'm in CA, not FL. I'm sure FL will vote him in.
Agreed. Crist's handling of that matter was just awful. He sickens me.
All true.
The Schiavo case was a political farce that backfired. Even Jeb said it was a political mistake when he dropped 11 points in the polls in two days. I'm glad Crist didn't join the politicians who made fools of themselves and had every doctor and court in the state laughing at them -- as well as the great majority of Floridians.
BTTT
Crist could have refrained from calling the accomplices in Terri's murder "heroes." He did not, and that shows he is beholden to the evil.
"His win will be a detriment to the State of Florida. However they don't have much lower to go."
I have my concerns over Charlie too, but when you say 'they' I hope your not referring to me and the other good citizens of my native state. I can think of dozens of states I will never even visit much less reside there for vile corruption of the citizens and their local and state government!
I'm voting for Crist as well, but not too excited about it. I don't think he's really that conservative. I'm a lawyer at a law firm with about 120 lawyers. He came to our firm to drum up support, and most of his talk was him bragging about all the liberal things he's done as AG--all the businesses he's sued, etc. I remember him bragging for example about putting a restaurant out of business because one of the waitresses offended a black man. I don't have any problem with enforcing nondiscrimination laws, but the facts that he presented did not seem serious enough for the state to seize a restaurant with the forfeiture laws.
I guess you could assume that he was simply playing to the audience, but it still worries me.
I'm in Orlando and I too am voting for Crist.
I'm in St. Pete and Crist has my vote (and my wife's).
