Well, I and several other Freepers reside just 5 miles out side the main gate of Ft Huachuca Arizona, just 28 miles from Tombstone famous for the Gun Fight at the OK Corral and about an hours drive from the real Ft Apache now the center of the Apache Indian Reservation in the White Mountains.

The Duke owned a ranch out this way and was a frequent sight to the locals. He was still the Duke but just another local rancher, no muss no fuss, no special security, just the Duke local rancher.

We have a liaison detachment from Her Majesty's Army on post and include them in everything that goes on in the community.

You might want to check out this for some history and colour on the area.....

Hi SandRat

Thanks for the links. 'From Sabers to Satellites' Cool stuff. Had a quick look this evening but there's too much to take in on one visit and its just before 'Sack Time' but I shall arise early tomorrow.

'No Muss No Fuss'..wouldn't expect anything less from The Duke.

Its what we call a 'Plum Posting'for our liaison
detachment... Lucky 'Fellows'(expletive deleted).

We are determined to visit Fort Apache and the area.Wife and I are going to Billings next spring so it would seem like a good time to fly down and take in some of the history ,of the not so well known at least over here, Sixth Cavalry.

Very best regards.
