Texas Governor: Perry (R) Dips to 35% Three Other Contenders Now Attract 18% Each

Three months from the election, the twisty four-way race for Texas Governor continues to keep political junkies on the edge of their seats.
Republican Governor Rick Perry's support has dropped by five percentage points since our July poll, as Democrat Chris Bell escapes last place to draw even with the two Independents in the race. So now it's Perry 35%, Bell 18%, Carole Keeton Strayhorn (I) 18%, Kinky Friedman (I) 18%.
Texas law makes those numbers look even better to Perry. There's no general-election runoff in Texas; if a candidate wins only a plurality on Election Day, he gets the job.

I heard Kinky on immigration and sent him a check. He said, "Good fences make good neighbors. Mr. Fox, help me put up that wall!"

Perry is pushing the Trans Texas Corridor, which is mighty unpopular with folks along its projected path.

Sure - since Strayhorn is the actual Demo candidate.
Had a look around in campaign records lately? The last I looked, and that was several weeks ago, Bell wasn't much over a million in campaign funds while Strayhorn was second only to Perry in funding - $3 million+. The Demos/liberals/leftists/moonbats are putting their money on a candidate who does identify with their ideologies, and has name recognition that they think can win with.

The Lt. Gov. and Speaker of the House both deserve a lot of the voter's ire over taxes.
I think Perry's been a fair governor. He kept calling special sessions, after the dems runoft to OK and NM, until redistricting finally got passed.

I think Perry has done a pretty good job considering the way the State government runs. He has two things going against him: his personality and his speaking style. He puts you to sleep while the paint is drying.

Kinky! Perry's a sorry-assed RINO who's more than willing to sell us out on toll roads or anything else that comes along. I like Kinky's position on illegal immigration, and I'm ready for government by musicians.

I heard on the radio that Perry has agreed to one debate - the Friday night before the Texas/OU game in October - against Bell, Friedman and Strayhorn. The Dallas Morning News and Belo Television will be the hosts and I presume they will select the moderator. Grab some popcorn...

Strayhorn,12%
I have an ultra hip(in his own mind) reletive in Austin. He also voted for Nader.

That Dem guy that nobody remembers his name (D)How true. When I saw the heading on this thread my first thought was "three contenders? I can only think of two." I wasn't even thinking about a (D) in the race.

My prediction, I'll use your numbers but rearrange the order.
Perry 45%
Strayhorn 23%
Bell 20%
Kinky 12%
Kinky won't do near as well as he's polling when crunch time comes. Strayhorn has a large war chest and has won a couple of statewide races. Her problem it getting the voters to understand that she is the same woman who ran under those other names she had back then. Bell will get the hard core rat vote but he's just not known statewide.

I'm not from Texas but why is Perry polling 35% in the home state of our beloved President?
And I have never heard about any scandals that he was involved in?
