Raids Round Up 'Fugitive' Immigrants
cbs ^ | 8/10/06

At about 5 a.m., loud banging on a front door quieted a chorus of crickets on a pine-ringed road in this Atlanta suburb.

"Police! Policia! Open the door!" shouted the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

The raid, part of a new push to round up immigrants who have been ordered deported for criminal convictions or visa violations, was targeting a man from El Salvador who had repeatedly been busted on drunk driving charges.

They came away instead with two brothers from Mexico, one of whom has the same name as the fugitive, who said they came illegally and will likely face criminal prosecution after officers found a handgun and a rifle in the house.

The new Atlanta-based fugitive team is one of seven the government is rolling out this week in an effort to show Congress that officers are aggressively going after illegals.

Other Fugitive Operations teams are operating out of Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, N.J., Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and Raleigh, N.C., bringing the total number of teams nationwide to 45.

The teams focus on fugitives who are threats to their communities, such as convicted drunken drivers and gang members, though they also arrest non-criminals and any other illegal immigrants they find during raids.

Exactly. Just look at the overall numbers of illegals deported. I think it was 500 nationwide last year. That means the entire Federal apparatus ($$$) could only find less than one per state per month.

yOur tax dollars at waste.

All this is great, but when will the ICE start doing the same thing in mosques during prayer time? It's not like an opportunity doesn't present itself five times a day.

Oh God, another thread of "just round them all up" posts, goody.

Ain't gonna happen. You will never see the nightly news showing the rounding up of over 10 MILLION people.

A lot of people need to get in touch with reality. The only way is border enforcement combined with much higher penalties for employing illegals. The "round 'em all up" glibness is just retarded.

It's better than nothing. Too bad we can't exile career criminals who are US citizens. Sucks having to pay to lock up all scum.

Build the WALL!

The fence in NOT working!

US/Mexico border fence and "marker" on hill. More of a goal post for illegal entrants, than any barrier to foreign trespassers. Heck, it cant even keep cows out! Look!

Wake Up America !

Immigration Enforcement

Secure Border Initiative

The Secure Border Initiative (SBI) was unveiled November 2, 2005 by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff in an effort to tackle the serious threat to national security posed when illegal immigrants cross our borders, entering the United States. This multi-year plan is aimed at securing America’s borders and reducing illegal migration.

In addition to border operations, the initiative focuses on interior enforcement, and on strengthening efforts to combat document fraud and on monitoring the worksite. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is achieving these goals through expanded fugitive operations and criminal alien programs, and an expedited removal process enabling ICE to quickly remove “other than Mexican” (OTM) illegal aliens to their home countries. Expedited removal reduces the time illegal aliens remain in detention awaiting their deportation from about 30 days to 15 days.

Since the SBI was implemented in September 2005, close to 4000 non-Mexican aliens were turned over to ICE for detention under expedited removal. Thus far, ICE has removed close to 3,000 of these individuals from the country.

We are also trying to stop them at the border.

They rounded up 25 illegals at a business in Madison yesterday. This has a effect on businesses that employ illegals because word spreads and illegal workers call in sick out of fear of detection at other businesses. I suspect rumors could have the same effect weeks laters causing more lost productivity. When the work don't get done the business's customers don't pay the bills, and at some point the profit the illegal worker can generate is less attractive because of the lost production.

Can't never did do anything.

It's non sequitur. How can you expect anything but that when you wrote that post?

Ignoring actual points and only commenting on a typing error--the last refuge of the idiot.

You ignored how was somebody supposed to reply to your idiot post. Your "not going to see 10 million rounded up in one night" is rediculous. Isn't that obvious?

"Oh God, another thread of "just round them all up" posts, goody."

Only one poster said that before you posted. All the rest said they thought what was written in the article was BS. Isn't it also obvious that whatever round up made is just for show?

LOL Anyone here can read your "contributions" to this site--witless, bitchy, whiney posts about other posters, nothing with any meaningful content about the articles or positions. Your own girly whining about my post shows you didn't even understand the point of it.

I hope other posters search your name under the "posters" search. You like to correct typing mistakes and act like the local gossip but you are without thought, the ability to reason, and you contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation. Thanks for wasting our time!
