> Why is this being reported.

Could be standard Resident Enemy Press treason, but ...

... could also be because we want the cells to devour
themselves with paranoia. This actually worked fairly
well at keeping the Cutthroat Cult busy chasing their
tails in the past.

Because we never learn. Whoever these government nitwits are, they should be fired and investigated.

Chertoff wouldn't have revealed this information to the press if he didn't want it published. In all likelyhood, as another poster mentioned, this is meant to instill paranoia in the terrorist cells. "Does Abdul REALLY want to blow up that plane with me, or is he a CIA plant ready to sell me out?"

It'll make them eat a lot of their own just to be "safe".

"Why is this being reported. "

Just hope it's disinformation, with just electronic surveillance
doing the job.
Any plotter not picked up will be at great risk at by any of the other
plotters not yet captured.
Any suspect released will likewise be at risk. Might want to talk before
returning to buddies who will guess he's the mole.

Just lovely; like the old "Mission: Impossible" shows in which the bad guys
get so skull-fornicated that they start eliminating each other.

It's a good way to screw with the terrorists. Now they'll have to spend a lot more time and effort looking for spies rather than plotting attacks.

It reminds me of an old joke from 2001.

"The CIA planted a message on an Al-Qaeda website and made it appear to have come from Osama bin Laden. It read 'We have a traitor in our organization. We have narrowed down the list of suspects but we do not know exactly who it is. Because of this, all operatives named Mohammad are to be executed at once.'"

"Why is this being reported."

Because Chertoff said it.

Watch for the British criticism to follow.

This has happened before with a British incident. We have leaky intel agencies. (Unless the Brits already released this).

No wonder the British wouldn't share the details of their Iraq/uranium intel.

Why is this being reported.

To eat the AQ's up from the inside with paranoia. The more energy they spend looking for moles, the less time they spend on attacks.

I;m pretty sure that they wouldn't give it to the press if they didn't want the terrorists to know it.

PsyOPs are part of the equation against the Terrorists......

They should report all the flights on which they had tickets so those whose lives were saved by these arrests know it. The MSM won't want to report it, but articles about those who didn't die, instead of articles about those who did, will prove too strong a story to suppress.
