Has anyone else noticed what's happened to Fox News "Brittle Humor" feature at 6:59PM - with Chris Wallace subbing for Brit?

It's become just one more obnoxious hate-Bush piece.

I suppose that's what they would have been.
As for what you call someone who watches network news.... I'd say, susceptible.

It's a matter of viewpoint. From the enemy side, thirty Muslims committing suicide while killing 4000 infidels is martyrdom. To them martyrdom has a lot of positive connotations.

To the victims, it's cold murder and terrorism. These naturally have quite negative connotations.

To the families of the murdered, it's utter horror.

So which side does Jim Steward view this from- victim's side, or perpetrators side?

To which side in this war is he granting the positive connotations, giving the sympathetic view?

That's why it matters.

Dog, I'm with hanamizu on this one.

Traditionaly, one thinks of martyrs as Jim Elliot, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, or the early Christians martyred for their faith during the Roman times/era.

The word martyr has usually been aligned with a noble/heroic or faith action.

...not with a hatefilled zealot determined to take down women and children with him, or her.

Martyrs?? MARTYRS??

Jim Stewart, his producers, and his entire NETWORK make me want to PUKE.

I want to know the sponsors of this show. If there is any chance in hell I might use their product or service, I will contact them and let them know I don't appreciate their sponsorship of a show that refers to Islamofacists as martyrs. They're murderers of innocent people. At BEST.

Sorry for "shouting", but that is absolutely ridiculous. And it WASN'T a "mistake" or slip of the tongue. Network reporters choose their words very very carefully. And this one is over the TOP.

There is a cure for this condition: Don't tune in to SeeBS. Okay, so I just had to check out the NBC Evening News version of today's events. Was pleasantly surprised to see David Gregory looking like he had the wind knocked out of him. No mention of Chuckie Schumer's traumatic flight cancellation in London.

btw--what was Brian Williams doing in London? Was he already there, or did he hop a jet over there for the occasion today?

I thought a martyr was someone who held onto their beliefs, despite being persecuted. I think that the victims of these barbarians would have been closer to being a martyr than the violent, mind numbed, Islamo-fascists.

A 'martyr' would be people on the plane these guys killed. As the agents of death, they're not martyrs, they're murders.

Also, if one chooses martyrdom or it is thrust upon them, it is that person who is dying....

..these vile terrorists are not martyrs, they are vile terrorists...

..martyrs don't take innocent people to death with them!!!!!

The word is from a greek root as I understand it and relates to "witness" as in witnessing for the truth unto death. Like many words it has been abused, corrupted and misused for so long it has multiple definitions in any dictionary you chose.

We have now found ourselves in the unhappy state where the translation of the arabic equivelant would more correctly be made as "wanton murder for religous zeal."

Additionally, our pop-culture adopts word from the criminals like "martyrdom operation" and then uses them reinforcing their spin from word selection.

Object when you hear it. Correct the idiots. There is little else that can be done. We aren''t the French with a language police.

"I say we stuff them dowm metal tubes on top of explosives and call them mortars."

Nah, let's just cannonize them. Give the Artillery guys something to do for fun. Maybe we can spare a few for the Navy to shoot out of torpedo tubes, too.

"Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean investigators say, the martyrs planned to simultaneously explode small chemical bombs made from ingedients in their carry-on luggage."

Staying with that writing style...

Acting true to the Quran they conspired to commit mass-murder of innocents as a way to demonstrate their faith in Islam.
