its because the security makes it no longer worth it to fly any place I can possibly drive to.

Same here. Its not so much that the security takes long - its that you can't forecast how long it will take, so you have to take the worst-possible-case scenario, and arrive based on that, then sit captive in the airport.

Last time I flew, between the waiting and the flights (Cleveland<->Dallas), I went through three novels, three magazines, and I slept for half the flight.

One novel on a cross-country flight each way is the best that I can do.
