Now that you mention it, I'm sure you're right.

I seem to remember the Cartwrights transporting nitroglycerin. It was the Barkleys who used the hearse, though.

Don't recall the BV episode or the hearse, my recollection is the Cartwrights had a modified buckboard.

Sure enough, on Bonanza, it was episode #206 from 1965, "The Other Son."

The Big Valley's was a two-part episode in 1967, "Explosion!"

At any rate, most of what I know about nitroglycerin I learned as a kid watching TV westerns.
