Binary systems like glycerine or sugar and permanganate or perchlorate can make a nasty explosion.

These were used by the resistance in WW2.

My experience w/ glycerin and potassium permanganate leads me to believe they are best suited as a fire starter which exhibits a time delay before igniting. The delay is somewhat dependent on ambient temperature and becomes unreliable below 60 degrees or so.

Sugar and perchlorate may be combined into a fudge like substance by melting, don't eat any though as the perchlorate is toxic! The substance is known as "fire fudge" and is used as an accelerant to start larger fires reliably.
