I think you may find that ANY liquids of any kind will be banned from any and all luggage, regardless of where it's stowed.
Buy stock in UPS and FedEx. That will be the only way you can get any luggage to your destination - ship it overnight to your detination the day before.

My thoughs, too. If thugs are determined to explode planes mid-air, the carry-on luggage is only half the problem. How are checked bags inspected?
Your's is a very good point especially if it had some type of detonation device which could be set off by something as innocent looking as the remote door opener for your car.
