Would Republican voters be justified in rejecting a "representative" who constantly repudates their ideas and positions? Would they be "crazed partisan insurgents" to look for someone who shares their points of view?

What Republicans wouldn't be justified in doing is subjecting that representative to non-stop personal attacks, anti-Semitic slurs, DOS attacks on the campaign web sites, threats of physical violence against the representative and his/her family, actual attacks on campaign workers and offices, etc. The physical stuff hasn't happened to Lieberman yet, but it will, and everything else I listed has happened. And you guys on the left and in the media will just smirk and say he's getting what he deserves.

Yes. Joe would be facing an uphill battle at first.

I'm a little concerned about conservatives repeating that Lamont is a nobody and somehow this disqualifies him from office. If a conservative "nobody" in Rhode Island beat Chaffee or someone like him in a primary, wouldn't we be happy to have him? We all know the libs are hypocrites when they whine about Bush having no qualifications for office when they nominate idiots like Lamont, but we don't have to emulate them.

According to CT records there are approximately 450,000 republican voters, and 700,000 democratic voters, and 920,000 unaffiliated voters registered as of 10-2005. I was speculating that the Dems vote might be split, while the GOP vote would not be. This would be a significant win for the GOP . However seeing the number of unaffiliated voters, it leads me to believe that Joe will probably win after all and that Lamont doesn't have much of a chance. Lamont basically has about 375,000 votes in the bag out of about 2,000,000. That is not close to winning. I wonder how many liberal wackos are in the unaffiliated column. Probably not many, as they have voted Joe in time and time again.

I hope Joe stays in the race and wins. I hope he doesn't return calls from the hundreds of fellow Dems who threw him under the bus on election night and the next day.
