Not likely. Those haven't been popular since Alfred Nobel discovered that they are safer and easier to use soaked into sawdust and bentonite. A more likely candidate would be a nerve agent.

Nerve Agent? Why bother boarding a flight? All they have to is expose it at the airport, look at the crowded terminals.

Not likely.
They are reporting the terrorists were to use liquid explosives. No liquids allowed on the planes and parents are being required to taste the liquids in baby's bottles.
