I'm guessing these explosives are only strong enough to blow a hole in the plane while at cruising altitude. Otherwise, why not wait until they land?

Remember folks, the positive results from increasing checks on hundreds of thousands of travellers will be that several fliers will miss their flights because they insist on being frisked and refrisked and re-refrisked by an airport security officer, purely for the purpose of esatblishing a meaningful relationship. Some of these will go on to marry that security officer.
Tis an ill wind indeed that does not blow some good.
