Bolton: Don't Count on U.N. Vote Friday

(IsraelNN.com) John Bolton, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, said Thursday night he "would not put odds on" the U.N. Security Council voting on a resolution by Friday. French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy is pushing for the revised draft for a resolution to come to an immediate vote.
"We expect, from one moment to the next, an accord in New York," he said. Ambassador Bolton said a Friday vote is "entirely possible" but far from sure. The 15 member nations of the Council have received the draft, and they usually study it for 24 hours before voting.
The main sticking point is the timetable for a withdrawal of Israel's troops. Lebanon and other Arab nations have demanded an immediate pull back, but a compromise draft allows for Israel to retreat only in tandem with the arrival of an international peace keeping force to patrol along side Lebanese soldiers. However, only four western countries have committed themselves to placing troops in Lebanon.
